The One Wilshire Data Center Infrastructure Expansion project supports the ongoing upgrade and expansion of electrical and utility infrastructure at one of the world’s largest telecommunications hubs in downtown Los Angeles, California. One Wilshire functions as a major global network exchange with extensive domestic and international fiber connectivity, requiring highly reliable electrical systems to support mission-critical communications, carrier operations, and continued data center growth. The project supports the facility’s transition into a next-generation data center campus through increased resiliency, redundancy, and long-term power capacity.
TAFT Electric has provided electrical construction and infrastructure services at One Wilshire for nearly a decade, supporting multiple phases of critical power improvements throughout the facility. Previous project phases included construction of a dedicated generator platform supporting backup power generation systems, installation of extensive conduit and distribution pathways throughout the building, and integration of new medium-voltage switchgear into the facility’s emergency power network. These improvements established the foundation for continued expansion while supporting the reliability requirements of a highly critical operational environment.
Current work includes expansion of backup generation capacity, installation of additional medium-voltage switchgear and distribution systems, implementation of a multi-level cable bus system, and deployment of UPS infrastructure supporting critical facility loads. Additional utility upgrades will enable up to 70 MW of added campus power capacity to support future tenant demand and continued data center expansion. Work was performed within an active, fully operational telecommunications facility and carefully coordinated to maintain uninterrupted service while executing complex electrical upgrades.
